About the event

Throughout history our ancestors relied on the plants around them to maintain their health and wellbeing. Discover how we can still use these ancient techniques to produce creams, ointments, tinctures, and liniments through careful identification, foraging and preparation of local medicinal plants.  We will discuss the abundance of folklore and myths surrounding this practice before being shown the best ways to safely dry and mix items collected from ancient woodland.

This is a practical course, so we will be working around a potentially smoky fire and will be walking in uneven woodland. All materials will be provided but you may wish to bring your own gardening gloves.  You will leave with a few samples of the mixtures made on the day.

Tutor: Emma Wetherell – Surrey Wildlife Trust, Education and Engagement Officer

My journey into medicinal plants started many years ago, after my daughter experienced a condition that was treated with a common plant found in our verges. Since then, my thirst for medicinal plant knowledge has grown and using medicinal plants has become a way of life.  I have fallen in love with inspiring others to understand just a small part of our heritage and how common plants have produced a variety of our everyday over the counter medicines.
