My Green Future is a 12-week environmental volunteer programme, designed to equip you with a variety of essential practical skills and experience. 

Whether you want to start volunteering, apply for an apprenticeship, or look for paid work, this programme will be tailored to your interests to help you on your journey.

What’s involved?

My Green Future is a fun and informative 1-day a week programme where you will find out what’s it like volunteering for Surrey Wildlife Trust, Surrey Hills Society, National Trust, and Surrey County Council. At various locations across Surrey, you will learn practical conservation skills, how to safely use tools, habitat management techniques, wildlife identification skills, and much more! No experience necessary.

When is it?

Start date: Tuesday 20th February 2024.
End date: Tuesday 7th May 2024

The programme will run for 12 consecutive weeks, every Tuesday 10am-4pm.

What will I gain?

An Individual Volunteer Plan to help you work out what you want to gain from the programme, review your experience on the programme, and identify possible next steps. A Volunteer Passport to evidence all the sessions you attend and skills you learn - great to show prospective employers. Personal Protective Equipment (work gloves, safety glasses, etc.) Outdoor boots and/or clothing (if necessary) to keep. Out-of-pocket travel expenses (up to £15 per session). Lunch and refreshments. On completion of 12-week programme: £300 personal training budget to spend on relevant training of your choice (no cash equivalent available!).

Who’s it for?

My Green Future is open to 18-24 year olds, living in Surrey who are not already volunteering, studying, or working in the environmental sector (*please check full eligibility criteria using the link below). You will be one of 12 like-minded individuals, accompanied each session by the Programme Coordinator.

How to apply

  1. Check your *eligibility and register your interest here
  2. You will be sent an application form to complete and return by 19/01/24.
  3. If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to an informal interview between Monday 5th and Wednesday 7th February ‘24
