About the event

From Spring to Autumn, we see bumblebees buzzing in our gardens. Spend the day learning about the common 7 types of bumblebees you may see every day; including their lifecycles, biology and how to ID these unique species.

If the weather allows, we will then head outside to see what bumblebees we can find and put our new ID skills to the test! Get a closer look at these iconic creatures, before letting them go about their day.

You will leave knowing how to help these charismatic species at home and feel empowered to tell everyone else!

Tutor - Lizzie Foster, Surrey Wildlife Trust Team Wilder Engagement Officer.

Lizzie worked with Surrey Wildlife Trust between 2018 and 2023.  Before that she was an active volunteer for the Trust. Her role as an Education and Engagement Officer, working with schools, families and communities was extremely rewarding. During this time, she set up a BeeWalk, created by the Bumblebee Conservation trust, with volunteers to survey what bumblebee species could be found at Nower Wood. She has now left Surrey Wildlife Trust due to personal circumstances, but in her spare time continues to support the trust through the BeeWalks. She is always enthusiastic to share what she has learned with others, whether children or adults, and looks forward to introducing people to the wonderful world of bumblebees.
