Join our practical conservation volunteers and help care for the wild places you love!
Help us look after local wildlife sites through a range of habitat management activities across our grasslands, heathlands, woodlands and wetlands.
Changing throughout the seasons, activities range from removing invasive species, creating bare ground for invertebrates, hedge laying and hedge planting, to clearing scrub, building access infrastructure and setting up grazing compartments.
If you’d like to join our practical conservation volunteer days, please register your interest and we will get in touch with further information to get you started.
About volunteer days
What are volunteer days?
Volunteer days are flexible sessions with no minimum requirement for commitment; you’re welcome to come as often and for as long as you like!
How long do volunteer days last?
Our sessions usually run from 10am until 3pm, with regular rest breaks and time for lunch. These sessions are flexible, so you can stay for as long or as little as you like, we just ask that you’re there at the start for the safety briefing.
We’ll also keep you topped up with refreshments and biscuits! All sessions are led by a member of staff or experienced volunteer, so you don’t need to be an expert to get involved.
Do I need to bring my own tools?
All activities are carried out with hand tools and PPE provided by the Trust. All you'll need are old clothes that are appropriate for the weather, sturdy boots and a packed lunch.
Some of our volunteers also choose to bring along a camping chair or a mat to sit on during breaks.
Who can attend volunteer days?
Anyone can attend a volunteer day, but if you are under the age of 16 you will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian (who will also need to register as a volunteer).
16/17 year olds can volunteer unaccompanied but must complete a parent/guardian consent form before they start volunteering.

Find a nature reserve
I enjoy being outside and working alongside very friendly, supportive, likeminded individuals…It breathes fresh life into me and I just love being able to participate and feel that I can make a difference whilst connecting to and feeling the benefits of working outside in nature
