About the event

As part of our £1m appeal we’re putting the spotlight on some of Surrey’s iconic species.

We invite you to join us for an insightful exploration into Nightingales, one of Surrey’s iconic songbirds. Hosted by Dan Banks, our Citizen Science Officer and bird expert, this talk will cover:

• Characteristics and habitats: learn about the unique behaviours and favoured habitats of Nightingales, surely one of Surrey’s most charismatic and mysterious visitors.

• Declining numbers: understand why Nightingale populations have reduced as these birds encounter the effects of habitat destruction and climate change at home and overseas.

• Conservation solutions: discover how we can all help Nightingales thrive in Surrey once more.

Save Surrey's Nature

This special talk is part of our Save Surrey's Nature Appeal, aiming to raise £1 million to support wildlife restoration here in Surrey. Your attendance and any possible donations you are able to make in addition to the kind support you already provide for SWT can make a real difference by helping us do more to protect Surrey's precious wild places.

We hope you’ll join this talk and consider donating to this important work.

More about our appeal

We’re aiming to raise £1million through our Save Surrey’s Nature Appeal. It’s an ambitious target but this vital income boost is needed to achieve more for nature more quickly.

Our focus includes managing, creating and connecting woodlands, grasslands, hedgerows, and wetlands to establish wilder corridors and protected areas for biodiversity to flourish. By prioritising land management decisions that incorporate Nature Based Solutions, we aim to expand and interconnect habitats across the county.

Additionally, your support will enable us to provide training programmes for aspiring conservationists, inspire younger generations through our Wilder Schools programme, and empower local communities to champion nature conservation.

Rest assured; every pound donated will contribute directly to our critical mission of preserving Surrey’s nature for future generations.

Where does my money go?

A donation to our appeal will directly fund efforts to:

  • Restore and expand Surrey's most diverse and threatened habitats, creating safe spaces and corridors for wildlife to thrive.
  • Collaborate with partners, other conservation and community groups to maximise our impact and restore biodiversity.
  • Empower future generations through education and training programs, inspiring a new wave of nature champions.
  • Cover rising costs to ensure conservation efforts can continue to expand and do more.
