About the event

RHUL Wild Recorders Training: Birds and Lichens

Join us at Royal Holloway University of London for an exciting in-person event focused on wildlife monitoring! Whether you're a nature enthusiast or a student eager to learn, this event is perfect for you. Lucy Houliston from the Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) will provide a short talk on bat species and identification, show you how to record bats using bat detectors, and then take you on a walk of the campus to find out which species call Royal Holloway home.

Our expert trainers will guide you in understanding how monitoring these groups feeds into conservation efforts and how you can get more involved in species recording after the event. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow wildlife enthusiasts and expand your knowledge. Sign up now!

Mobility

Some areas of the walks for practical elements will not be wheelchair accessible for standard wheelchairs as we will be going off the path. We will be able to make accommodations to ensure wheelchair users receive the same education and experience however.

What to bring

We will provide all the necessary equipment for recording on the day. You might want to bring a pen and paper if you want to take some notes, otherwise everything is provided. If you do have anything you think will help, feel free to bring it along though!

Bring some walking boots or sturdy shoes as we will be going into some muddy areas and a waterproof coat. We can hope for sunshine but better to be prepared for rain!
