Level 3 Certificate for Forest School Leaders is accredited by Open College Network West Midlands (OCNWM) and recognised by The Institute for Outdoor Learning.  This course enables you to gain a national qualification to lead Forest School activities. 

This modular course will run on the following 5 days : Saturday 10th & 11th October and Saturday 7th, 8th & 9th November 2020 followed by two skills days in March 2021 (dates TBC).

The Level 3 course covers;

  • Understanding the Forest School ethos and approach to learning and development.
  • Learn how to safely establish & deliver a Forest School programme
  • Practice the skills to help children learn & develop in a woodland environment
  • Learn how to manage your woodland site and an understanding of the ecological impact

The course content includes;

5 day initial training course covering the OCN units. This includes planning for and running your forest school; policies and procedures, risk assessment, session planning. Theories of learning and development and background to forest schools. The structure of woodland, flora and fauna identification, ecological impact and practical skills including shelters, knots, fire-lighting, hand tool use, crafts, games and use of woodland resources.

Be able to plan and deliver a minimum of six consecutive Forest School sessions.

Skills weekend - 2 days assessing and consolidating ideas.

Complete a Portfolio alongside receiving advice and assessment.

Optional mentoring days – drop in sessions, an opportunity to ask questions and receive advice on your portfolio work.

Booking is essential, total course fee is £950.00. A £200 deposit is required to confirm a place on the course.
