About the event

Aged 16 - 30? Interested in bats? Join us at Nower Wood Education Nature Reserve for a guided walk with a creative twist!

Bats are one of the most fascinating creatures we have in the UK. Surrounded by mythology and folklore, there are over 1400 different species worldwide with these protected species accounting for 1/4 of all UK mammals.

Join us for a Wild Youth event on a guided tour of Nower Wood, 81 acres of ancient woodland and home to at least 5 of the 18 different species of UK bats. We will use bat detectors to hear their echolocation calls and look for them skimming insects off the tree tops and surfaces of the ponds.

We will be joined by eco-poet Dr Briony Hughes (Royal Holloway, University of London) who will present an immersive performance combining natural science with poetic exploration. As this is a late event we will also provide some pizza to fuel our evening!

Note: this event is part of our Youth Action for Nature programme, which is designed to create more opportunities for young people with an interest in wildlife and nature. All events in this programme are free for young people.

Final event timings to be confirmed shortly - based on sunset time

Please note there is no bus service to Nower Wood from Leatherhead train station. We will offer lifts from the station, please request this on the order form. There is a discretionary fund to help cover travel costs if you require any support.
