About the event

This course is for nature enthusiasts who are at the beginning of their journey of learning to create beautiful images of creatures in the wild.  Our tutor will talk you through the various stages of composing wonderful wildlife images using everything from your smartphone through to a brief overview of more advanced digital photography.

After this session each delegate will have enough information to feel empowered to enter into the world of taking wildlife pictures.

This largely classroom-based course covers key aspects of photography including;

  • What makes a good wildlife photograph?
  • What draws a viewer in?
  • Matching your experience to your equipment.
  • Understanding how every camera works and why that is important when
    taking a picture.
  • Trial and error is a good thing.
  • The beauty of post processing.

Bring along your smartphone for a short practice session in the wonderful surroundings of Nower Wood

Tutor Profile - Gehan Aluvihare

I was born in Sri Lanka where I started birding when I was 8. I am a huge wildlife and nature enthusiast and I volunteer for the Surrey Wildlife Trust, RSPB and BTO, in
reserve management and monitoring roles. I have been a photographer for over 40 years starting with analogue film roll cameras and processing my own pictures in a dark room. I like travelling to exciting destinations around the world for wildlife and nature trips. However I also enjoy taking wildlife pictures in my garden and anywhere in the UK. I share my pictures with like minded people on social media.
