Long Plantation is a long strip of rich chalk grassland and is part of the Shabden Park Estate, which is owned by Surrey County Council.
Whilst the grassland itself is not publicly accessible, a footpath follows the perimeter of the site and the wider Shabden Park Estate has a multitude of footpaths and a self guided trail.
Shabden Park is part of the Chipstead Downs Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is a working farm with areas of chalk grassland and woodland.
The estate hosts several nationally scarce species of mining bee, the Roesel's bush-cricket and a wide variety of birds and butterflies.
A wide variety of chalk grassland flora also can be found on the site, including Wild Marjoram and orchid species.
