Position details

Commitment:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

Overview of the role:

Our education team help thousands of children each year to connect with and become curious and confident in nature. We are based at our beautiful ancient woodland private nature reserve and education centre at Nower Wood.

As an education volunteer you will support the delivery of nature discovery days, tutor-led sessions, holiday clubs and open days throughout the year.

Time commitment:

Ideally, you’ll be able to support our activities on a regular basis but there is flexibility around this.

What’s involved:

You will help bring learning to life by leading and supporting children on our Nature Discovery Days. Help our visitors delve into nature at Nower Wood Nature Reserve for a wonderful introduction to plants, animals and ecosystems. Regular activities include leading pond dipping, minibeast hunting and sensory forest trails.

You can also support our Wild Explorers Holiday Club for 5-11 years with outdoor adventures in the woods. The club will include activities such as forest school, pond dipping, minibeast hunting, den building and fire lighting.

...or help with our Young Rangers Conservation Club for 11–17-year olds engaging in activities such as conservation, campfire activities and learning to use tools like bowsaws, billhooks and bushcraft knives for carving and whittling.

Skills and experience:

No previous experience is needed - you just need enthusiasm to work outside supporting children to explore and have fun in nature. Activities are outdoors at Nower Wood.

By volunteering, you could:

  • Develop skills in supporting and leading groups of young people
  • Spend time outdoors in nature and learn about environmental education, species ID and managing habitats
  • Contribute to inspiring the next generation about the importance of nature
  • There is also potential for volunteers to develop Level 1 skills in Forest School

Next Steps:

  • To get involved, simply register as a volunteer
  • We will be in touch to discuss the opportunity and invite you to training  which will be offered in the new year (Jan/Feb), ready to join the education sessions in the Spring term of 2027

Age Guidance
