Florence and Krystyna raised over £160 for the Trust through activities at School and now they've designed their own nature themed Christmas cards!

We organised this fundraising day at school because we love going outside and playing in the fresh air. However, we absolutely hate seeing litter covering our local area and seeing most people driving instead of walking.

The reason we dislike this so much is because we admire animals (we both love our pets too!) and we know lots of little animals can get trapped in plastic and end up eating it. We also did this because we’ve learnt all about the greenhouse effect and it is very bad for lots of animals in various types of environments.

We did this by making a powerpoint about what we wanted to do on the fundraising day and showed it to our teacher and headteacher. We organised activities together at home and we ran these on the day – Year 5 were allowed to wear ‘nature inspired’ mufti. We told the year group about why we care for the environment and why we wanted to raise money for Surrey Wildlife Trust.

On the fundraising day (19th July) we spent the whole time outdoors, in mufti and Year 5 enjoyed fun activities (that we organised) such as: guess how many leaves in the jar, writing about the outdoors, a litter picking challenge, making a rainbow out of natural materials and sorting eco-friendly and not eco-friendly products into piles. We also hosted a little competition to create something we can see in nature.

We raised over £170 and we are so happy that Year 5 also enjoyed the day!
