Nature needs us more than ever! By completing the volunteering section of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with Surrey Wildlife Trust, you’ll be helping to make a real difference for local wildlife.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday

Overview of the role:

This volunteer opportunity is for taking part in Surrey Wildlife Trust’s practical conservation sessions, which can count towards the volunteering section of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

By joining our practical conservation volunteer days, you’ll help care for wildlife habitats across Surrey while working towards your DofE award.

What’s involved:

Practical conservation sessions take place mainly on weekdays, with occasional Sunday sessions between September and February.

As a practical conservation volunteer, you’ll:

  • Join organised volunteer days led by Surrey Wildlife Trust staff and volunteer leaders
  • Help carry out hands‑on conservation tasks to improve habitats for wildlife

Locations:

Practical conservation sessions take place at Surrey Wildlife Trust reserves and countryside sites across the county. Locations are confirmed in advance.

West Surrey Team: Sites near Elstead, Wisley, Chobham, Ockham, Worplesdon, Guildford, Camberley, Bisley and West End. 

Central Surrey Team: Sites near Sutton, Ewell, Epsom, Leatherhead, Horsley, Send, Guildford, Shamley Green, Cranleigh, Godalming and Ewhurst.

East Surrey Team: Sites near Caterham, Coulsdon, Tadworth, Godstone, Bletchingley, Newdigate, Redhill and Reigate. 

Age guidance:

  • Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (who must also register as a volunteer).
  • Volunteers aged 16/17 can attend unaccompanied but must complete a parent/guardian consent form before taking part.

To take part, you’ll need to register as a volunteer. Once registered, you’ll receive further information to get you started.
