Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Frequency:

Overview of the role:    

Activities are led by Surrey Wildlife Trust’s East Reserves Team and take place at different Trust reserves and countryside sites. 
   
Time commitment:    

Flexible. Attend as often or as little as you like.

Weekdays, most often on Mondays and Fridays, with occasional Wednesdays, though this can vary.

Days usually run from 10am until 3pm.     
                           
Locations:    

This opportunity is based in the east of the county and often includes sites near Caterham, Coulsdon, Tadworth, Godstone, Bletchingley, Newdigate, Redhill and Reigate. 

Locations are confirmed in advance.
           
What’s involved:

  • Grassland, wetland and woodland management
  • Clearing scrub and invasive plant species
  • Cutting and raking grasslands
  • Setting up grazing compartments for livestock
  • Maintaining paths, access routes and site infrastructure                   

Skills and experience:    

No previous experience is needed. Activities are outdoors and can involve uneven or muddy ground and steep slopes, or wetlands. Volunteers should also be comfortable with physical activity.

To take part, you’ll need to register as a volunteer. Once registered, you’ll receive a weekly email with upcoming sessions and details on how to book your place.

Age guidance:

  • Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (who must also register as a volunteer).
  • Volunteers aged 16/17 can attend unaccompanied but must complete a parent/guardian consent form before taking part.
