June is a peak month for garden wildlife. Bees, butterflies and other pollinators are taking full advantage of the sunny days and abundant flowers, whilst Hedgehogs, bats spend the mild nights feeding on the glut of summer insects. This year's young amphibians will also be leaving garden ponds in search of a cool, damp place to shelter.

Leave out water for wildlife
During hot summer weather, it is important to have plenty of water for animals and birds to drink and bathe in, particularly during periods of drought.

Create a log pile for amphibians
Having left the pond, amphibians such as frogs, toads and newts will be looking for cool damp places to shelter during the heat of the summer. Create a small log or stone pile in a shady corner.

Plant for hoverflies
Hoverflies are fantastic pollinators and a valuable asset to the garden. Ox Eye Daisy, Feverfew, Hardy Geraniums, marjoram and Pot Marigolds (single varieties) are all great for hoverflies and other insects too.

Install a water butt
Water butts can help conserve water during the hot summer months, reducing your water bill and beating the hosepipe ban! They're great for watering the garden, refilling the pond - or even washing the car.
Attach your water butt to your gutter down-pipe and decent summer shower could fill it to the brim!
