About the event

Join us at Nower Wood and connect to the spirit of the trees onsite with artist-teacher / founder of Surrey Art School Ellie Green. We'll begin the day with a gentle walk around the ancient Woodland - learning how to identify some of the trees onsite, with Ellie sharing their stories or folklore and magic. We'll then settle under the canopy where you'll learn some simple techniques for recording the 'essence of the tree' with quick, guided warm up exercises followed by some in depth studies using a range of drawing materials (graphite, liquid pencil, chalk / charcoal, pastels and ink).

After a pause for lunch you'll be invited to choose your own tree to study in more depth and, with guided tutor support, you'll create an in depth study using mixed media materials of your choice. At the end of the afternoon we'll gather together and create our own exhibition of our tree studies, reviewing our work and celebrating our creations.

Please note: In the event of extreme weather we'll work indoors using the abundance of trees visible from the studio for inspiration.

Please bring a chair or picnic blanket with you as we will spend as much time as possible in the woods. All art materials are included in the workshop as well as drawing boards and paper.

Tutor Profile - Ellie Green
