Guided walk at Unstead Wetland Nature Reserve
Event details
About the event
Join us for a guided walk around Unstead Wetland Nature Reserve. The reserve is a mixture of mixed woodland, wet woodland, reed bed, open areas of water and both wet and dry meadows.
Extensive work has taken place to develop a rich mosaic of habitats to encourage a growing list of species. In recent years, Unstead Nature Community Group have cleared large sections of Alder and Willow in the North Meadow, the Dry Lagoon and East Lagoon allowing reflooding of these sections to encourage the return of many wetland species. They have planted over 3,000 native trees including around 500 metres of hedgerow and a Miyawaki Forest.
The Unstead site is a link in the network of community reserves encouraged and supported by Surrey Wildlife Trust. The project has been a true collective effort, with great support from local residents, SWT and Thames Water’s biodiversity team.
Important information:
The walk is approximately 2 miles on footpaths and walkways.
Walking boots are recommended.
We will walk at a gentle pace with lots of opportunities to stop and ask questions.
