About the event

Are your teens wild about the outdoors? Give them the chance to find out more about the species that live in our woods and how we survey their populations.

We will take a look at our native mammals and have a go at mammal trapping in the morning, as well as assessing our habitats for other key species. In the afternoon, we will either explore the pond habitats at the wood and do an aquatic invertebrate survey or learn some tool skills, such as whittling with a knife.

This event is suitable for 11-17 year olds and booking is essential. You'll need to wear appropriate warm outdoor clothing and strong boots for working in the woods. You'll also need to bring a packed lunch and a snack, and please note we are a nut-free centre, so avoid food containing nuts. Drop off is at 9:30am and pick up will be at 4pm, so please arrive promptly so we can get straight out and on with the day!

Although adults are encouraged to drop their children off, due to staffing limitations if your child requires 1:1 assistance at school you will need to provide an accompanying adult for the event. If your child has any other particular needs, please do get in touch so we can discuss how best to meet these before booking.
