About the event

This new course has been designed to cater for those who are just beginning to enjoy the art of close-up and macro photography.  Adrian Davies is an experienced tutor who can expertly walk you through the specifics of using your camera as well as guide you on the techniques needed when taking this type of photograph.

You will be looking at all aspects including outdoor and indoor techniques.  This will include the use of natural and artificial light and considering various ways of enhancing detail through lighting.

The ancient woodland of Nower Wood will be your inspiration. Classroom sessions will be intermixed with outdoor photography opportunities.

After taking this course and practicing these newly acquired skills, you will have the chance to take a more advanced close-up photography course in July which focuses specifically on flowers and insects.

Adrian Davies is a wildlife and natural history photographer, author and highly experienced lecturer. He was one of the first people in the UK to use a digital camera over 20 years ago (the mighty Kodak DCS100!) and has been an advocate of digital imaging ever since. He has run workshops for organizations such as Nikon, the British Institute of Professional Photographers, the Royal Photographic Society, the Field Studies Council, the Royal Horticultural Society and numerous others. He co-wrote, with Phil Fennessy, one of the first text books on digital imaging (Electronic Imaging for Photographers, 1994) a title which ran to 4 editions. He has since written several other books and dozens of articles for various magazines.

Adrian has been photographing all aspects of wildlife and natural history for over 30 years, both in the UK and abroad. Increasingly, he is covering environmental issues such as the effects of global warming, and the effect of alien species in the British countryside. He is also currently looking at how plants and other natural history subjects appear in ultraviolet light, and is in the latter stages of writing a book on Digital Ultraviolet and Infrared Photography His pictures have appeared in hundreds of books and magazines.

Many of his images are held by three picture agencies, Nature Picture Library, Visuals Unlimited and Alamy.com, (see Links) but images can also be purchased directly from him as well.
