Our education volunteers dove into the deep end with festivities at the start of December, helping to prepare for our popular Christmas in the Woods events. 12 volunteers diligently took on the role of Santa's helpers in the run up to the events, getting the woods and Education Centre decorated, preparing activity resources and helping Santa to wrap presents for the children. Then over the weekend, 17 smiling volunteers helped with the delivery of the event, taking on the official role of Christmas elves! With their support, we welcomed 80 families to enjoy Christmas in the Woods, following a trail of festive fun with exciting activities for little ones along the way. As well as a Christmas adventure through the woods, visitors enjoyed a marshmallow toasted on the fire and visited our woodland grotto to meet Mr and Mrs Claus! A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers for making this popular event such a success.
From Christmas to Conservation: A Festive Season with Nower Wood Volunteers
Our Nower Wood practical conservation volunteers have been busy this season too, with path edge clearance and site maintenance tasks. Thanks to our volunteers, we now have a brand new, expertly crafted bridge to replace the original which stood the test of time for the past 30 years. We have no doubt this new one will last just as long! In true festive spirit, snow began to fall whilst our volunteers were hard at work, but had melted away by the time the bridge was completed.
On the 10th December, our education volunteers, practical conservation volunteers and staff came together to celebrate the past year's achievements. We were delighted to welcome over 40 volunteers to our annual Volly Jolly, where we all get together to raise a glass (or a cuppa) to say a HUGE thank you to all our incredible volunteers who share their knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm with us all year round, come rain, snow or scorcho weather! Sausages were cooked on the BBQ, side plates and salads were shared and there were of course plenty of mince pies and delicious deserts, many handmade by our brilliant volunteers.
All the team at Nower Wood and SWT would like to wish our volunteers a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2026. We are already looking forward to another busy year of activities and events…but perhaps a little nap is required before the New Year is here!
