Our Nature Discovery Days are led by our volunteers. Schools choose from our four different curriculum linked programmes: pond dipping, minibeast safari, trees & plants and a sensory trail through the habitats. Thanks to our team of 45 exceptional volunteers who collectively gave over 1,700 hours of their time, over 2,500 children were able to experience the magic of our ancient woodland reserve. We absolutely could not do this without our volunteers– they simply are the BEST! 

As Sir David Attenborough has said - “If children don’t grow up knowing about nature and appreciating it, they won’t understand it, and if they don’t understand it, they won’t protect it, and if they don’t protect it, who will?” 

Our volunteers don’t rest up during the holidays either as we offer ‘Wild Explorers’ [primary aged students] and ‘Young Rangers’ [secondary aged students] holiday clubs during the school holidays. Since February half term we have engaged with over 360 Wild Explorers and 100 young Rangers. It has been wonderful to see some of our original Explorers transition into Rangers, keeping their passion and enthusiasm for nature well and truly alive

Have you thought about becoming an education volunteer - helping to teach young people about wildlife and connect with nature? We will be looking to recruit more volunteers for our 2027 season.

One of our volunteers Sally had this to say about the rewards of working with young people  – “I have a little holiday club story to share which I thought demonstrates what it’s all about. One boy started the day being very obstructive to a group who were trying to be friendly and inclusive. He ended the day working in a group, helping another boy with his tree climbing and did the best ever clearing away. And he was smiling and happy!!”
