Wilder Communities
Our Wilder Communities programme aims to inspire and support local people to take action for nature in Surrey!
If we are to halt and reverse nature’s decline, then we need everyone to step-up for nature. Whether that’s planting up a window box, managing a greenspace or bringing your community together to create change, every action, however big or small, plays a crucial role for nature’s recovery.
Through our Wilder Communities programme we aim to build relationships, develop skills and bring people together for Surrey’s Wildlife.
Join our Wilder Communities Network and connect with like-minded people across Surrey, who are working to protect and enhance local nature. We aim to support your group by providing:
- Training and networking opportunities
- Wildlife Recording Kits - equipment available to borrow for family events and recording species in your local area
- Updates on community funding opportunities
- Funded spaces on a range of our adult learning courses, such as small woodland management or wildflower ID.
- Citizen science and wildlife recording opportunities
- News from across the Wilder Communities network

Wilder Communities Project Areas
In certain areas of Surrey, we are spending more time with communities, developing and strengthening relationships to help build community power. These areas include Guildford, Bramley, Shalford, Wonersh, Worplesdon, Farnham, Haslemere, Godalming, Dorking, Redhill and Reigate. Action to help wildlife in these areas can help to join up important habitats, helping to connect nature across East and West Surrey.
If you are located in one of these areas and would like to help wildlife then please get in touch!

Your unique local knowledge and expertise are invaluable, and your input can help to ensure that the needs and preferences of the local community are met. We welcome the opportunity to learn more and discuss how we can work together to help both people and wildlife to thrive.
