Staff at Surrey Wildlife Trust have come up with a novel way of recycling their old Christmas trees – feeding them to their herd of greedy goats! The animals have been munching their way through the prickly pines this week at their winter home at Pond Farm in Wisley.

The ancient art of hedge-laying was the focus at the official launch of Surrey Wildlife Trust’s new Hedgerow Heroes project, aimed at conserving and restoring this vital wildlife habitat. Farmers, local councils, land managers, countryside groups and volunteers joined the Trust on a farm near Dorking to support the campaign to save the county’s precious hedgerow network.
