A wide-ranging review of more than 4,000 species in Surrey has revealed that wildlife in the county is under threat like never before. The State of Surrey’s Nature report found that nearly one in nine species is now extinct and more than one fifth under threat – including Tree Sparrows, Hedgehogs and Great Crested Newts.

Thousands of Children Enjoy Day Out in the Wild!

Nearly 4,000 people enjoyed going wild in the countryside as ‘The Little Welly Goes Wild’ hit Surrey this weekend. The UK’s biggest children’s obstacle course included 30 exciting challenges spread over a 3km woodland route - and this year it was bigger and better than ever before.

After months of mud, hard hats and diggers, Surrey Wildlife Trust’s brand new £1.1m education centre at Nower Wood is nearly ready to throw open its doors to visitors. The charity is now working against the clock to kit out the inside of the flagship building near Leatherhead before the first students arrive in the spring.

Surrey Wildlife Trust Will Not Abandon the Countryside

Surrey Wildlife Trust announced last week the restructuring of its countryside management team, following budget cuts by Surrey County Council. Government cuts mean the council can no longer afford to pay for its countryside estate and SCC wants it to become self-financing by 2021.
