Dollypers Hill

Large_flower_bird_s-foot_trefoil_aBirds-foot trefoil by Adam Surgenor

Situated in an urban area of Surrey, Dollypers Hill is a mixture of different habitats, including ancient woodland, scrub and chalk grassland. The wooded section at the northern end of the reserve consists of old ash and hazel coppice with some maple.

The reserve is managed to encourage a variety of wildlife.  Coppicing in the northern section of the reserve has allowed many of the flowering plants to flourish, with bluebells dominating the clay area and dogs mercury dominating the chalk areas.  Sheets of wood anemone are also abundant.

The slopes to the West have small chains of good chalk flora and contain plants such as grass vetchling, eyebright, kidney vetch, birds-foot trefoil and quaking grass.

Birds that have been spotted in the area over the years range from sparrowhawk and kestrels to goldcrests and willow tits. Uncommon visitors include birds such as the hawfinch and brambling.

The reserve is situated three miles south of Croydon, near Kenley. Access to the site is from either Old Lodge Lane, to the North, or from Caterham Drive, to the South.

You can travel by bus to the site with bus numbers 404, 409 and 466 stopping half a mile away. Reedham station is about 1 mile away.
