Conference Celebrating Surrey's Biodiversity

On Saturday November the 27th Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) along with Surrey County Council and the Surrey Biodiversity Partnership (SBP) are organising a conference at the National Trust property Dapdune Wharf, Wharf Road, Guildford GU1 4RR. 

The aim of the meeting is to bring together environmental groups and nature conservation practitioners from across Surrey; to increase the communication and co-operation between groups and provide a network for support of both groups and SBP members.

The day aims to support and encourage environmental groups with displays, lectures, workshops and discussions on the management of land for nature conservation.  The conference will be opened by Ron Pritchard Chairman of SWT, other speakers on the day will be:

Simon Elson from Surrey County Council, talking on Ponds their creation and ongoing management, 
James Adler from SWT, on the importance of grazing animals in land management, and
Anita Burroughs from the people’s trust for endangered species, on the Surrey Orchards Project.

There will also be a series of workshops in the afternoon on the management of churchyards, orchards, how to start a new group, and how to maintain and reinvigorate existing groups.

Frances Halstead, Environmental Group Support Officer of SWT’s Surrey Greenspace Project, said: “ This conference has been organized in the International Year of Biodiversity to celebrate the achievements and to reward all the hard work of environmental groups across the county,  thanks to them, sites across the County have been protected and enhanced significantly, increasing their biodiversity and value for wildlife!”

Are you a member of an Environmental Group in Surrey?  If so this FREE conference is just for you. Come along, meet other groups and learn more about nature conservation and the needs of particular habitats and species, from some of the experts from around the County. 

Groups and organisations are encouraged to bring along posters/ displays and leaflets about the work of their group, to demonstrate what has been achieved and to inspire others.  Time will be provided to view the displays and network with other participants.

Lunch will be provided but spaces are limited so BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL.
