After over 21 years as a conservation volunteer at both Bay Pond and Graeme Hendrey Wood, Daphne Lamport has “retired” from active involvement in the management of both Surrey Wildlife Trust reserves.

With former reserve manager, Peter Fernee, Daphne was instrumental in organising the annual depth survey of Bay Pond and monitoring the silting up of the pond, as well as assisting with many of the conservation tasks around both sites.

At a recent barbeque held in her honour, Volunteer Warden, David Millen, presented Daphne with a framed photograph of Bay Pond, together with a card signed by many of the fellow volunteers that she has worked with.  Anna Fosbery also read out a letter from SWT’s Chief Executive, Nigel Davenport, thanking Daphne for her long-term contribution to nature conservation in Surrey.

Daphne will now be devoting more time to her garden and to her love of bowls and tennis.
