Badger - Danny Green

As the wild stars of the new John Lewis advert bounced onto our TV screens this week, Surrey Wildlife Trust is asking everyone to give the gift of nature this Christmas - to help hundreds of children in the county discover their wild side.

A pair of jumping foxes joined a bouncing badger, a somersaulting squirrel and a happy hedgehog on a garden trampoline to launch John Lewis’ eagerly awaited Christmas campaign. The magically created wild animals highlight the wonder and joy of the natural world around us.

And The Wildlife Trusts are delighted to have been named John Lewis’ Christmas charity partner -10% of the retail price of a selection of wildlife cuddly toys sold in their stores and online will be donated to the charity.

“Educating and inspiring the next generation about the wonders of wildlife and encouraging children to get outside and discover the joy of nature is so very important and a huge part of what we do,” said Aimee Clarke, Surrey Wildlife Trust’s Director of Education.

“So we are delighted John Lewis chose to showcase our fantastic British wildlife in its Christmas advert. Money raised through the John Lewis soft toy sales will enable us to buy wildlife action packs for hundreds of school children in Surrey, as well as activity booklets and wildlife resources for teachers to use in lessons.”

Surrey Wildlife Trust is currently undertaking a £1.1m redevelopment of its flagship Nower Wood education centre near Leatherhead, as part of its commitment to inspire and educate people about nature. Up to 15,000 children and young people benefit every year from our wide range of outdoor learning courses – and the Trust hopes the new centre will bring the joy of nature to new audiences.

Craig Inglis, Customer Director at John Lewis, said: "Each year we work with a charity which fits our ad and we hope this year’s campaign will encourage more children to discover a love of British wildlife and encourage support of The Wildlife Trusts.

“2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile. It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels to give the perfect gift at Christmas.”
