Go Wild With Your Tots for Less This Winter.

Surrey Wildlife Trust is celebrating a £3,000 windfall from The Southern Co-operative, which means families can enjoy cut-price ‘Wild Tots’ outdoor play sessions this season.

The popular Wild Tots events for children aged 2–6 years and their parents are held every Friday morning at Newlands Corner near Guildford. The usual price is £10 per child – but thanks to The Southern Co-operative’s donation, sessions are now just £5 for two hours of fun.

Activities vary each week, with different themes throughout the year, but include a mixture of stories, crafts, games and lots of time for outdoor play in the woodland.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to encourage young children to have some weekly fun - exploring, learning and playing in the woods, in a Forest School inspired adventure,” said Laura Ashfield, from the Trust’s Outdoor Learning Team.

“The sessions are designed to engage children with wildlife and nature and to promote both team working and independent learning. We aim to provide an opportunity to boost creativity, confidence, communication skills, physical development and so much more.”

The donation is part of the new ‘My Wild Neighbourhood’ campaign by The Southern Co-operative and Wildlife Trusts in the southern region, which aims to encourage families to get outside and explore the wild in their neighbourhoods. The initiative is supported by proceeds from the carrier bag levy collected by The Southern Co-operative, distributed through their ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ programme.

It’s hoped the subsidised Wild Tots dates will make the sessions accessible to even more families in Surrey. They will be running every Friday between 10am and 12noon until Wild Tots finishes for the Christmas period on 16th December 2016. Wild Tots participants are also given a loyalty card and after attending three sessions, can come to their fourth free of charge!

Wild Tots is just one example of Surrey Wildlife Trust’s ongoing commitment to inspire and educate people about nature. Up to 15,000 children and young people benefit every year from our wide range of outdoor learning courses.
