Help us Bag £12k for Chitty's Common

Tuesday 1st March 2016

Surrey Wildlife Trust needs your help to win £12,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative for essential improvement works on Chitty’s Common.

Vote for Surrey Wildlife Trust to receive £12,000

This 11 acre wildlife haven is located less than 3 miles north-west of Guildford town centre. Despite its relatively small size, Chitty’s Common packs an impressive wildlife punch, with grassland, woodland and pond habitats home to many types of butterflies, small mammals, birds, amphibians and insects.

However, this local oasis for wildlife and people needs urgent improvement now. An award of £12,000 will enable Surrey Wildlife Trust to stop the spread of invasive Japanese knotweed, replace deteriorated boardwalks and interpretation boards and maintain the network of ditches which play a vital role in helping to alleviate localised flooding. This will enhance both habitats for wildlife and access for walkers, ramblers and bikers – making sure everyone is a winner!

Recognising the urgency of this project Tesco has chosen Chitty’s Common as one of three projects in the Guildford area to be awarded a Bags of Help grant, raised through revenue generated from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

You are invited to vote in the Guildford Superstore, Guildford Bridge Express and Ashvale Lysons Avenue Express from 27 February until 6 March to decide who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards in the Guildford region, and that’s why Surrey Wildlife Trust needs your help.

Your vote is important so please be part of the ‘Common Good’ and vote for Surrey Wildlife Trust to receive £12,000 to help restore Chitty’s Common.
