How do i tell the difference between a rabbit and a hare?

Brown hare by Heather Angel, rabbit by Dave Kilbey The biggest difference is the size. A hare is 75cm from the tip of its ears to its tail while a rabbit is just 45cm.
Hares have long, powerful back legs and move in a fast bounding run. In contrast rabbits usually move in jerky bouncing hops low to the ground.
Hares have distinctively ginger fur and long, black-tipped ears compared to a rabbit which is grey-brown with short, rounded, untipped ears.
If you get close enough to see their eyes a hare has light golden-brown eyes whilst those of a rabbit are dark brown.
