Bay Pond
Pond dipping platforms at Bay PondThis wonderful nature reserve is located in the centre of Godstone. There is a beautiful wildflower meadow, two ponds, a bird hide, dipping platforms, and board walk access to the alder carr.
The reserve provides ample opportunity for studying the rich diversity of flowers, grasses, invertebrates and birds. The abundant animal life makes pond dipping exciting and rewarding. A mature alder carr can also be explored from the safety of a boardwalk.
The added bonus of a butterfly and sensory garden enables students to see, smell and touch nature.
The former stables, cow shed and barn have been converted for educational use and are fully equipped.
Facilities:
- A maximum of 60 students can be accommodated on Monday-Thursday and a maximum of 40 students on Friday.
- Fully equipped classrooms include a video microscope.
- Platforms for safe pond dipping.
- Bird hide for observation of waterbirds.
- Cover for lunch and wet weather activities in the barn.
- Toilets.

Our sessions are always planned and presented with the Health & Safety of the
students in mind. The activities instil an awareness of the importance of observation when studying
animals and plants in their natural habitats. Students are encouraged to treat the organisms with
care and sensitivity. We also emphasise the need to look after our environment. Most importantly
we hope you enjoy your day out, and return to school with a better understanding of how we
fit into the natural world.
