Oh Holy Night, it's the Volly Jolly!

Posted: Thursday 27th October 2016 by Volunteering

The clocks haven't gone back and it's already time to start thinking about the Volly Jolly!

It’s that time of year again. The clocks haven’t gone back, the pumpkins haven’t yet been carved and bonfire night has not gone off with a bang. However, we’re already turning our heads towards Christmas. With collective groans and sighs we see the chocolates being stacked in the supermarkets and shop window displays start to twinkle just that little bit more. Everywhere you turn you hear that phrase, in that resigned, unified monotone:

“It. Is. Too. Soon”

But do not fear. One event sparkles like the ‘Strictly’ finalist spandex unitard. Put aside the Christmas catalogue; the sense of impending doom as you draft the first Christmas gift list (what will you get dad this year?!) and say hello to the annual Volly Jolly (Jingle Fest).

This year we will be jingling all the way to Chobham to spice up the common, clear some scrub and even bag a Christmas tree. If that wasn’t enough there’s going to be Christmas crafts from the incredibly talented Laura “Clause” MacLeod to teach us all a thing or two about do-it-yourself festivities. We’ll all be making merry with spiced juices, winter pimms and mulled wine. (How merry will be dependent on whether you are a designated driver).

Expect a glowing Christmas BBQ lunch with all those festive BBQ trimmings you love. Staff will be joining us throughout the day so it’s a great opportunity to meet more people from the Trust and find out what different things are going on.

So with a Ho Ho No… we begin the slow slide into Christmas festivities, but even the humbugs amongst us will have to ignore that excited little feeling we get at this time of year (or at least until an acceptable point in December). We hope that the annual Volly Jolly is the shining star in your Christmas diary; I know that all the staff are looking forward to thanking you for your incredible work throughout the year. We really hope as many of you can join us as possible. Thursday 15th December – I’m sure you can’t wait! There’s bound to be cake, so don’t be late!
